Manx Grand Prix
Posted on Aug 23, 2016Swatkins Group is proud to manufacture this year’s Manx Grand Prix Awards, for the annual motorcycle races taking place in the Isle of Man this August.
Swatkins has had the pleasure of manufacturing both of these famous Awards exclusively for the Isle of Man Government.
This year’s Festival of Motorcycling and Races schedule began Saturday 20th August, thru to the 3rd September.
The MGP
The MGP or Manx is considered to be the amateur’s rider’s alternative to the Isle of Man TT Races that are held earlier in the year in May and June. The event consists of six four-lap races of the 60.70km circuit, which begins at the TT Grandstand in Douglas, the island’s capital. There are 6 different classes, consisting of the Newcomers class, the Lightweight/Ultra Lightweight class, the Junior Class, Senior Class and the Junior/Lightweight and Senior Classic races for the older machines.
The MGP has been the stepping stone for many great riders who have gone on to be globally famous. The likes of Davy Morgan, Martin Finnegan, Ray Porter, Kenneth McCrea to name a few, are now well-established TT racers who also compete in road racing events elsewhere in the British Isles, particularly in the Irish road racing circuits. ‘King of the Mountain’ Joey Dunlop, the most successful TT rider of all time with 26 victories, also tried his hand at the MGP on a Classic Aermacchi and achieved a podium finish.

The MGP awards are exclusive products for the Isle of Man Government, commissioned specially for the Manx Grand Prix races. Swatkins proudly manufacture these Iconic Awards in house in our factory in Walsall, Great Britain.
